Diploma thesis “Fragments of silence” explores the landscape of Broumov region. This thesis reacts to a current problematic relationship of people and nature - overturism. This work endeavors to bring an alternative to visiting nature and to inspire people to take a trip even outside the main center of interest. The proposal consists of seven small architectural interventions in hidden places, which have been already altered by human activity. Interventions seek for the essence of these places, they present new ways how to complete those places and initiate new relations, experiences and feelings. The goal of this thesis is to show vision of gentle ways how micro architecture can enter the valuable landscape.

Perception of Present Cross-border Cooperation by Representatives of Municipalities in the Czech-Polish Borderland: Case Study of the Broumov Region

The thesis deals with cross-border cooperation in the Czech-Polish borderland. The Broumov region is a peripheral region which is situated along the border. The location provides good oportunities for cooperation. The aim of the work is to discover how possibilities of cross-border cooperation are perceived in the region by the municipality representatives. The research is based on a structured interview.
Stony routes in the Broumov walls and their importance for identity formation of landscape and region

The thesis deals with the analysis of current condition and heritage of old stony routes in the Broumov walls. These routes were built from variously sized sandstone blocks of local origin. The routes are specific for the area of interest and they have their long history. The aim of the thesis is, with the example of the Broumov walls, to discuss the importance of the old routes as specific historical landscape structures and local heritage for shaping of the identity of the region and its specific character. Regional identity, heritage and historical landscape structures belong to key concepts introduced in the theoretical part. Significance of the routes as a specific kind of the heritage and an integral part of local cultural landscape is discussed. In the empirical part of the thesis, results of a partial inventory of stony routes in the Broumov walls, which have been done during research, are introduced. The result is shown in attached maps. The inventory was focused on classification of the routes by degree of conservation of the original character and by ways of use today. The thesis also deals with the research on perception of route heritage and contemporary ways of its use by local authorities.
